Baking Time: 20 Minutes
Total Time: 3 1/2 hours or 210 minutes
Serving Size: 10-20
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
- 4 tsp yeast
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 6 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup melted butter
Directions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the milk, sugar, milk powder, vanilla, yeast, eggs, and baking powder until the mixture is combined.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and the mixture, start kneading, and slowly add the melted butter to the bowl. Knead for 10 minutes. After kneading, cover it and let it rest for 1 1/2 hours.
- Take the dough out and divide it into small, equal portions. Turn these portions into balls and let them rest for another 30 minutes. Make sure to cover them so as not to dry them out.
- Take the balls and flatten them out into an oval shape. Make 2 slots, leaving the top part and braid it by crossing over the middle rectangle under the right one, the left one beneath them and then the left one over the right one, then the middle one over the left one, the middle over the right, and then finally, push together all three sides to seal the braid. Repeat with the rest of the balls. Cover and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
- While waiting, preheat the oven to 370°F, after the 30 minute timer, take off the cloth and brush with warm milk, bake for 18-20 minutes.
- After they’re done baking, cover them with a damp cloth for 5 minutes, after this time take them off the baking tray and set onto a cooling rack and cover for another 5 minutes.
